Lahore, March 2, 2026: Pakistan’s upcoming tour of Bangladesh for a three-match One Day International (ODI) series is facing uncertainty due to prevailing regional tensions, while major changes are expected in the squad for the assignment, a private sports channel reported on Monday, citing sources.

The Pakistan national cricket team, popularly known as the Green Shirts, are scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on March 9. All three ODIs are slated to be played at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on March 11, 13 and 15.

However, insiders said the ongoing regional situation has cast doubt over the tour, adding that it would only proceed if the security environment does not deteriorate further or pose travel risks to players and officials.

Meanwhile, discussions on the squad composition are expected to begin this week as Pakistan shifts focus towards preparations for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027, which will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

According to sources, the selection committee is likely to make sweeping changes to the squad, with younger players expected to be given opportunities at the expense of underperforming senior cricketers, including Babar Azam, Saim Ayub and Mohammad Nawaz.

As Pakistan do not have an immediate T20 International assignment, no immediate decisions are expected regarding the shortest format. However, sources claimed that around five to six players from the squad that featured in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 could be gradually phased out.

For context, Pakistan last played ODIs in November last year when they hosted Sri Lanka for a three-match series and completed a clean sweep.

That series marked the second ODI assignment for fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi as captain, following his debut leadership stint in a three-match home series against South Africa, which Pakistan won 2–1.
