Islamabad, March 8, 2026: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani held a telephonic conversation with the Speaker of the Parliament of Azerbaijan on Sunday to discuss the evolving regional situation and matters of mutual interest.

During the conversation, Gilani conveyed Pakistan’s strong solidarity with the government and people of Azerbaijan following recent drone attacks on Azerbaijani territory. He said such attacks constitute a violation of international law and the principles governing relations between sovereign states, warning that actions of this nature undermine regional peace and stability.

The Senate chairman noted that Pakistan fully understands Azerbaijan’s security concerns and reiterated Islamabad’s firm support for the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security.

He also referred to recent diplomatic contacts between the two countries, including a telephonic conversation between Shehbaz Sharif and Ilham Aliyev on March 6, as well as discussions between Ishaq Dar and Jeyhun Bayramov on March 5, which also conveyed Pakistan’s strong support and solidarity.

Highlighting the close and longstanding partnership between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, Gilani reaffirmed that Pakistan would continue to stand by Azerbaijan. He emphasized that dialogue and diplomacy remain the most effective means of reducing tensions and ensuring lasting peace and stability in the region, while stressing the importance of restraint by all sides.

Gilani also expressed appreciation to the Azerbaijani government for facilitating the evacuation of Pakistani nationals from Iran. He said 113 Pakistanis were safely evacuated through the Astara border crossing between Azerbaijan and Iran, where Azerbaijani authorities provided visas on arrival and assisted in their onward travel.

The Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament thanked Pakistan for its strong expression of support during the current situation and reaffirmed her country’s commitment to strengthening ties with Islamabad.

Both sides expressed confidence that the longstanding partnership between Pakistan and Azerbaijan would continue to contribute positively to peace, stability, and cooperation in the region and beyond.
