Islamabad, March 13,2026: Security sources said on Friday that two rudimentary drones were intercepted and neutralised at separate locations near Rawalpindi using electronic countermeasures.
According to the sources, the drones were detected in areas adjacent to the garrison city and were successfully brought down without causing any damage or casualties.
As a precautionary measure, airspace in the area was briefly closed, but it has since been reopened, officials added.
Earlier, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) had posted on the social media platform X that flight operations at Islamabad International Airport experienced a “brief operational adjustment.” The post was later deleted.
The development followed reports by several media outlets claiming that Islamabad’s airport had been closed for flights.
However, in a subsequent statement, the Pakistan Airports Authority clarified that reports about the closure of Islamabad’s airspace were “baseless.”
“Flight operations at Islamabad International Airport are continuing without interruption and all flights are operating according to schedule,” the authority said.
The PAA also urged the public to avoid relying on unverified or misleading information and instead follow official channels for authentic updates.
