Islamabad, March 17, 2026: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, congratulating him on the successful constitutional referendum held in Kazakhstan on March 15.
During the call, the prime minister praised the high voter turnout and strong public support for the new Constitution, stating that it reflected the trust and confidence of the Kazakh people in President Tokayev’s leadership and reform agenda. He expressed optimism that the reforms would further strengthen governance, institutional stability, and national development in Kazakhstan.
Recalling President Tokayev’s recent visit to Pakistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz assured that Pakistan was actively following up on key decisions taken during the trip. He noted that both sides would soon meet to finalize proposed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and agreements aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation.
President Tokayev reiterated his invitation to the prime minister to undertake an official visit to Kazakhstan later this year, which was accepted.
The two leaders also exchanged views on regional developments, particularly the situation in Afghanistan, emphasizing the importance of dialogue, cooperation, and regional connectivity for shared prosperity.
Prime Minister Shehbaz also extended warm Eid-ul-Fitr greetings to President Tokayev and the people of Kazakhstan, conveying his best wishes for their continued peace, progress, and prosperity.
