PM Shehbaz, Azerbaijan President exchange Eid greetings, discuss regional tensions

Islamabad, February 20, 2026: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Ilham Aliyev to exchange greetings on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, the Prime Minister’s Office said on Friday.

During the warm and cordial discussion, the prime minister conveyed heartfelt Eid wishes to President Aliyev and the brotherly people of Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani president reciprocated the greetings for the people of Pakistan. Both leaders also prayed for unity among the Muslim Ummah.

The two sides discussed the ongoing hostilities in Iran and the Gulf region. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the attacks against Azerbaijan and expressed Pakistan’s full solidarity and support with the Azerbaijani people during the challenging situation.

Both leaders underscored the need for immediate de-escalation and emphasized dialogue and diplomacy as the only viable path for resolving outstanding issues.

Expressing satisfaction over the positive trajectory of Pakistan-Azerbaijan relations, the leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening fraternal ties between the two countries.
