Islamabad, March 23, 2026: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday held a telephonic conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, emphasizing the need for dialogue and diplomacy among regional countries to resolve ongoing tensions.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Shehbaz extended greetings on the occasions of Eid al-Fitr and Nowruz to the Iranian leadership and people. President Pezeshkian warmly reciprocated the sentiments, conveying his best wishes for the people of Pakistan.

Expressing solidarity with Iran, the prime minister described it as a “brotherly neighbouring country” and conveyed Pakistan’s support for the Iranian people amid ongoing hostilities. He also offered condolences over the loss of lives and prayed for the recovery of those injured and displaced.

PM Shehbaz voiced serious concern over the escalating situation in the Gulf region, stressing the urgent need for collective efforts to de-escalate tensions. He underscored the importance of returning to dialogue and diplomacy among all neighbouring countries to settle disputes peacefully.

Highlighting the broader Muslim world, the prime minister emphasized the critical need for unity within the Ummah in the face of current challenges.

He also briefed the Iranian president on Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach efforts and reiterated Islamabad’s commitment to playing a constructive role in promoting peace and stability in the region.

The conversation comes amid an intensifying conflict involving Iran, United States, and Israel, which has reportedly claimed over 2,000 lives since late February, triggering global economic concerns and heightened geopolitical tensions.
