Islamabad, April 1, 2026: The federal government has removed Chaudhry Muhammad Ali Randhawa from his position as Chief Commissioner Islamabad and Chairman of the Capital Development Authority, appointing Lt. (Retd) Sohail Ashraf as the new Chief Commissioner.

The appointment was formalized following federal government approval, with the Cabinet Division issuing an official notification.

Lt. (Retd) Sohail Ashraf, a Grade-20 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service, was previously serving in the Punjab government as Secretary Communications and Works. He has also held key administrative positions, including Deputy Commissioner Faisalabad and Deputy Commissioner Mandi Bahauddin, during his career in civil service.

Reports indicate that Sohail Ashraf is likely to assume additional responsibilities as the new Chairman of the Capital Development Authority, consolidating his role in managing the federal capital’s urban governance and infrastructure projects.

This development represents a significant administrative change at the top of Islamabad’s governance structure, with the Chief Commissioner overseeing key functions of the federal capital, including urban planning, development, and service delivery through the CDA.
