Smog Crisis: mask wearing mandatory in four divisions of the Punjab

Lahore, November 6, 2024–Amid worsening smog levels, authorities have made mask-wearing mandatory in four divisions of Punjab: Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, and Multan.

The directive was issued by Punjab Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Director General Dr. Imran Hamid Sheikh, citing an alarming rise in respiratory issues in areas heavily affected by the toxic smog. “This decision aims to protect residents from exposure to harmful chemicals in the air,” stated the EPA.

The mandate is part of a broader effort to mitigate health risks as air quality continues to deteriorate across the region.
