Islamabad, April 18, 2026: A group of 12 countries, including Pakistan, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia, have strongly condemned Israel’s announcement to appoint a diplomatic representative to the self-declared region of “Somaliland,” terming it a violation of Somalia’s sovereignty.

In a joint statement, the foreign ministers of participating countries—including Somalia, Sudan, Libya, Bangladesh, Algeria, Türkiye, Indonesia, Kuwait, and the State of Palestine—expressed their “strongest condemnation” of the move, describing it as a “flagrant violation” of the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Somalia.

The statement reaffirmed the countries’ “unequivocal rejection” of unilateral actions that undermine the sovereignty of states, emphasizing their continued support for Somalia’s unity and its legitimate institutions as the sole representatives of the Somali people.

The ministers further warned that such actions violate key principles of international law, including the United Nations Charter and the Constitutive Act of the African Union. They cautioned that the move sets a dangerous precedent that could destabilize the Horn of Africa and negatively impact broader regional peace and security.

The joint statement underscores growing diplomatic concern among Muslim-majority and regional countries over developments affecting territorial integrity and international norms.
