Islamabad, May 6, 2026: Chairman Senate Yousaf Raza Gilani on Wednesday called for enhanced global dialogue, peace, and unity while addressing the “Paigham-e-Islam” Conference in Islamabad.
In his address, Gilani highlighted Islam’s universal message of peace, compassion, tolerance, and human dignity, emphasizing that the teachings of Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) promote justice, empathy, and benevolence. He stressed that in an increasingly polarized world, projecting the true message of Islam with clarity and consistency is more important than ever.
Welcoming participants, the Senate chairman commended the organizers for convening a timely dialogue on an issue of global relevance. He underscored that sustainable peace can only be achieved through dialogue and diplomacy rather than confrontation, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to de-escalation and constructive engagement.
Gilani paid tribute to the country’s leadership, including President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, for their role in promoting peace and easing regional tensions through responsible and strategic leadership.
Referring to parliamentary diplomacy, he highlighted his role as the founding chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers Conference (ISC), describing it as a platform for fostering international cooperation. He noted that the recent session held in Islamabad under the theme “Peace, Security and Development” reaffirmed the importance of parliamentary engagement in promoting global stability.
The chairman also recalled the legacy of former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, particularly his role in convening the historic Islamic Summit in Lahore, which he described as a milestone for Muslim unity.
Proposing stronger coordination among international forums, Gilani called for enhanced collaboration between the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Arab League, Inter-Parliamentary Union, and parliamentary bodies of OIC member states to develop structured frameworks for dialogue, mediation, and peaceful dispute resolution.
Highlighting Pakistan’s approach to national security, he said the country’s response through Operation Marka-e-Haq and Bunyan-un-Marsoos reflects a measured and responsible strategy aimed at safeguarding sovereignty while maintaining a commitment to peace.
Concluding his address, Gilani urged the international community to move beyond divisions and work collectively towards a world defined by peace, stability, and shared prosperity, reiterating that Pakistan stands ready to contribute actively to this goal.
