Beijing, May 25,2026: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Beijing on Sunday, where the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership.
The meeting took place in the backdrop of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked Premier Li Qiang for the warm reception and stated that the Pakistan-China friendship remains the cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy. He said the “iron-clad friendship” between the two countries is rooted in mutual trust, strategic confidence, and a shared commitment to peace, development, and prosperity.
During the meeting, both leaders reiterated support for each other on issues of core national interest and acknowledged the transformative role played by the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in Pakistan’s socio-economic development. They also expressed their resolve to advance the next phase of the mega project.
The two sides reviewed the entire spectrum of bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction over the steady progress in political, economic, strategic, security, and people-to-people cooperation.
Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized that the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties should be utilized to transform the historic goodwill between the two countries into practical, people-centered, and future-oriented outcomes. He stressed the importance of regular high-level exchanges and close coordination to further deepen bilateral ties.
Highlighting Pakistan’s commitment to the high-quality development of CPEC, the Prime Minister said the next phase would focus on industrialization, connectivity, agriculture, science and technology, digital transformation, clean energy, and socio-economic development.
He also underscored the need to build synergies between China’s 15th Five-Year Plan and Pakistan’s development initiative, “Uraan Pakistan,” to accelerate national development priorities and expand mutually beneficial cooperation.
The Prime Minister appreciated China’s consistent support for Pakistan’s economic stability and national development and reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to ensuring foolproof security for Chinese nationals, institutions, and projects operating in Pakistan.
He further highlighted the importance of enhanced collaboration in emerging sectors such as space technology, artificial intelligence, and advanced technologies. The Prime Minister noted that the selection of Pakistani astronauts for China’s space station programme reflected the growing depth of cooperation between the two countries in strategic and innovative fields.
Both sides agreed to maintain close coordination, expedite implementation of agreed projects, and take the Pakistan-China partnership into a new phase of practical, result-oriented, and high-quality cooperation.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Information Minister Ataullah Tarar, IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi, and other senior officials were also present during the meeting.
