Rawalpindi, May 30, 2026: Pakistan won the toss and elected to field first against Australia in the opening One-Day International (ODI) of the three-match series at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
The series marks another chapter in the long-standing ODI rivalry between the two sides. Pakistan and Australia have faced each other 111 times in ODI cricket, with the six-time world champions holding a clear advantage in the head-to-head record.
Australia have won 71 of those encounters, while Pakistan have registered 36 victories. Three matches ended without a result, and one match was tied.
The two teams last met in an ODI series in November 2024, when Pakistan secured a historic 2-1 series victory on Australian soil. The triumph was Pakistan’s first-ever ODI series win against Australia in Australia.
Both sides enter the series with comparable recent form, having won three of their last five completed ODI matches.
Pakistan’s most recent ODI assignment came against Bangladesh in March, where the Green Shirts suffered a 2-1 series defeat. Australia, meanwhile, are returning to ODI cricket after a seven-month gap, having last played the format in October 2025 when they defeated India 2-1 in a home series.
With both teams looking to build momentum ahead of upcoming international assignments, the Rawalpindi series is expected to provide a closely contested battle between two of world cricket’s most experienced sides.
