Oslo, June 3,2026: A formal Pakistan Friendship Group (PFG) has been established in the Norwegian Parliament for the first time, marking a historic milestone in parliamentary relations between Pakistan and Norway.

The founding members of the cross-party Group include Labour Party MPs Farukh Qureshi, Trine Lise Sundnes i Arbeiderpartiet, Kamzy Gunaratnam, Frode Jacobsen, Erik Hager & Kristine Løfshus Solli, and Progress Party MP Himanshu Gulati.

The members met on 2 June at the Parliament and elected MP Farrukh Qureshi as Chair and MP Trine Lise Sundnes as Deputy Chair of the PFG.

Welcoming the establishment of the PFG, Ambassador Saadia Altaf Qazi stated that this significant initiative fulfils a longstanding proposal of the Embassy aimed at enhancing institutional engagement and cooperation between the Parliaments of Pakistan and Norway.

She also commended the efforts of Chair Farrukh Qureshi and Deputy Chair Trine Lise Sundnes for their active role in mobilising parliamentary support for the formation of the Group.

Pakistan already maintains Pakistan–Norway Friendship Groups in both Houses of the Parliament of Pakistan.

The Embassy reiterates its commitment to working closely with the newly established PFG in the Norwegian Parliament to further deepen bilateral understanding, dialogue, and cooperation.
