Islamabad, June 9, 2026: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with Somalia’s Foreign Minister Abdisalam Ali to discuss ongoing efforts aimed at securing the release of Pakistani hostages aboard the hijacked vessel MT Honour 25.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan has been actively engaging with Somali authorities since the vessel was hijacked off the Somali coast in April 2026.

During the call, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar conveyed Pakistan’s serious concern over the safety and well-being of the hostages and stressed the urgency of their early release and safe repatriation.

Foreign Minister Abdisalam Ali assured Pakistan of Somalia’s continued and sincere efforts to resolve the matter at the earliest possible opportunity. Both sides agreed to maintain close coordination and communication until the situation is resolved.

The two foreign ministers also reviewed the broader trajectory of Pakistan–Somalia relations and expressed satisfaction over the positive momentum in bilateral cooperation.

The Somali foreign minister appreciated Pakistan’s constructive diplomatic engagement and mediation efforts in regional matters, noting the importance of continued collaboration between the two countries.

The conversation comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts by Pakistan to ensure the safe recovery and return of its citizens held in connection with the hijacking incident.
