Islamabad/Bucharest, June 15, 2026: Romania has acknowledged and appreciated Pakistan’s role in facilitating diplomatic engagement in the Middle East, with Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu praising Islamabad’s mediation efforts aimed at promoting regional stability and dialogue.
In a statement, the Romanian foreign minister said she held a telephone conversation with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, during which he briefed her on the latest developments regarding diplomatic efforts in the Middle East, including discussions related to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the reported understanding reached between the United States and Iran.
Oana Țoiu thanked Pakistan for its “important mediation role” and discussed with Dar the contributions of regional partners, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Türkiye and Egypt, as well as the continued engagement of the United Nations and the European Union in supporting de-escalation efforts.
The Romanian foreign minister said both sides reaffirmed the strong bilateral relationship between Romania and Pakistan and highlighted the spirit of dialogue that has characterized contacts between the two countries since the beginning of the Islamabad-led peace initiative.
According to the Romanian minister, the formal signing ceremony of the agreement is expected to take place on June 19, while the next phase will focus on further negotiations, including technical discussions related to the nuclear file. She noted that Romania’s position as Vice-Governor of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) would be relevant in the upcoming process.
Țoiu expressed optimism that ongoing diplomatic efforts could contribute to lowering global energy prices and improving access to agricultural fertilizers, developments that could positively impact international food markets.
She stressed that continued international coordination and engagement remain essential for sustaining progress, while emphasizing the importance of regional stability and preventing further escalation.
The Romanian foreign minister also noted that Romania is participating in international diplomatic initiatives aimed at supporting the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and broader efforts to promote dialogue and stability in the region.
The latest interaction reflects growing diplomatic coordination between Islamabad and Bucharest and underscores Pakistan’s increasingly visible role in regional mediation and conflict-resolution efforts.
