Reykjavik, June 17, 2026: Pakistan and Iceland have taken a significant step towards strengthening bilateral relations by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the establishment of a formal Bilateral Political Consultations (BPC) mechanism between the foreign ministries of the two countries.
The MoU was signed in Reykjavik by Pakistan’s Ambassador to Norway and Iceland, Saadia Altaf Qazi, and Iceland’s Permanent Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Martin Eyjólfsson.
The agreement, which enters into force immediately, aims to promote closer cooperation and facilitate the implementation of mutually agreed joint initiatives through diplomatic channels.
The newly established BPC mechanism will provide a structured platform for regular consultations between the two sides, enabling periodic reviews of bilateral political relations, exchanges of views on regional and international issues of mutual interest, and exploration of new avenues for cooperation and partnership.
Officials said the framework would further enhance diplomatic engagement and contribute to expanding collaboration across a range of sectors.
Pakistan and Iceland have enjoyed cordial diplomatic relations since 1976. The relationship is rooted in shared values, mutual trust, and constructive cooperation in various multilateral forums, including the United Nations.
The signing of the MoU reflects the commitment of both countries to deepen bilateral engagement and strengthen dialogue on issues of common concern at both regional and global levels.
