Netherlands Ambassador meets Speaker Punjab Assembly to discuss bilateral cooperation

Lahore, June 19,2026: Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Pakistan, Robert Jan Siegers, called on Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan at the Speaker’s Chamber in Lahore. During the meeting, both sides discussed a range of matters of mutual interest, including bilateral relations between Pakistan and the Netherlands, parliamentary cooperation, trade, education, research, and sports.

The two dignitaries agreed on the importance of promoting parliamentary diplomacy and further strengthening cooperation between the legislative institutions of both countries.

Speaking on the occasion, Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan said that Pakistan and the Netherlands enjoy longstanding relations based on mutual respect, trust, and cooperation. He emphasized that enhancing parliamentary engagement between the two countries is the need of the hour and noted that exchanges of parliamentary delegations would provide new momentum to bilateral relations.

The Speaker highlighted that greater trade and investment cooperation would create new opportunities for shared prosperity. He further stated that collaboration in education, research, and youth exchange programmes would strengthen mutual trust and understanding between the two nations. He added that the exchange of experiences among democratic institutions plays a vital role in strengthening governance systems.

Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan also referred to Punjab’s effective legislation against child marriage, describing it as an important step toward ensuring a safe and secure future for children. He welcomed the expansion of cooperation between Pakistan and the Netherlands across all sectors.

Ambassador Robert Jan Siegers expressed confidence that new avenues of bilateral cooperation would prove beneficial for both countries. He described his visit to the Punjab Assembly as a pleasure and reaffirmed his commitment to further broadening cooperation between Pakistan and the Netherlands.

The meeting was also attended by Secretary General Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Aamir Habib, Advisor to the Speaker Osama Khawar, Principal Secretary Imad Hussain Bhalli, Chairman Standing Committee on Minority Affairs Philbos Christopher, Malik Taimoor Ahmad Khan, and Director Media Rao Majid Ali.

Following the meeting, Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan gave Ambassador Robert Jan Siegers a tour of the Punjab Assembly House.
