Chennai, June 20, 2026: India completed a dominant 3-0 clean sweep of the ODI series against Afghanistan with a comprehensive nine-wicket victory in the third and final match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday.

A brilliant five-wicket haul from Prasidh Krishna and an unbeaten century by Yashasvi Jaiswal guided the hosts to another convincing win after triumphing in the first two matches by 170 runs and seven wickets, respectively.

Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi elected to bat first, but the decision failed to pay off as the visitors were bowled out for 218 in 44.2 overs despite a valiant century from their skipper.

Afghanistan lost early wickets and were reduced to 26/2 before Shahidi steadied the innings with a determined knock. Batting at No. 4, he anchored the innings with 102 runs off 131 balls, striking 13 fours and a six.

Shahidi found valuable support from all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai, who contributed 50 off 56 deliveries. The pair shared a crucial 105-run partnership for the fifth wicket to rescue Afghanistan from a difficult position.

However, India’s bowlers maintained control throughout the innings, with Prasidh Krishna emerging as the chief destroyer. The pacer claimed 5 wickets for just 23 runs in 8.2 overs and was named Player of the Match for his outstanding performance.

Gurnoor Brar, Prince Yadav and Harsh Dubey chipped in with a wicket each to help dismiss Afghanistan.

Chasing a modest target of 219, India made light work of the pursuit, reaching the target with 128 balls remaining and losing just one wicket.

Jaiswal starred with the bat, remaining unbeaten on 110 from only 86 deliveries. His fluent innings included 14 fours and three sixes as he dominated the Afghan bowling attack.

The left-handed opener was well supported by captain Rohit Sharma, who smashed 79 off 69 balls, including nine fours and three sixes. The pair put on a commanding 170-run opening stand that effectively sealed the contest.

Veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi claimed Afghanistan’s lone wicket when he dismissed Rohit in the 23rd over, but the breakthrough came far too late to alter the outcome.

Jaiswal remained unbeaten until the end, steering India comfortably home and capping off a dominant series for the hosts, who outclassed Afghanistan in all three matches.
