Islamabad, June 24, 2026: Pakistan and Denmark have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation in the water sector, recognizing its critical role in economic development, climate resilience, public health, and food security.

The renewed focus on collaboration came during a meeting between Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, and Denmark’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Maja Derrous Mortensen.

During the discussion, Ambassador Mortensen highlighted the growing momentum in Denmark-Pakistan cooperation on water management and sustainable resource development. She emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships to address emerging water challenges and support Pakistan’s long-term development priorities.

Officials noted that recent Danish engagements in Pakistan have brought together researchers, technical experts, policymakers, and development financiers to explore opportunities where Danish expertise, innovation, and investment can contribute to improving water governance, efficiency, and sustainability.

The meeting underscored the significance of international collaboration in tackling water-related challenges, particularly in the context of climate change, increasing demand for water resources, and the need for resilient infrastructure.

Participants stressed that addressing water issues requires more than technological solutions alone. Effective outcomes, they noted, depend on aligning institutional frameworks, policy vision, technical expertise, and cross-border cooperation.

The discussions reflected a shared commitment by both countries to deepen engagement in areas related to water security, sustainable development, and climate adaptation, with the aim of delivering practical and lasting benefits for communities and future generations.

Officials expressed confidence that continued dialogue and partnership between Pakistan and Denmark would help develop innovative solutions to support the country’s long-term water and environmental goals.
