ICC cancels trophy tour in AJK amidst BCCI objections

Islamabad, November 15,2024- The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revised the itinerary for the Champions Trophy 2025 trophy tour, cancelling planned visits to Skardu and Muzaffarabad—regions within disputed territories of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K), and Gilgit Baltistan (GB). The decision follows objections raised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over the tour route proposed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The PCB had announced a nationwide tour for the trophy from November 16 to 24, intending to showcase it across multiple cities, including areas in AJK and GB. However, the ICC decided to exclude these regions from the itinerary after concerns were raised by the Indian cricket board.

This development comes against the backdrop of ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan in the lead-up to the Champions Trophy 2025. The ICC recently informed the PCB that India would not be traveling to Pakistan for the tournament due to security and diplomatic concerns.

The ICC’s decision reflects its efforts to navigate sensitive geopolitical issues while ensuring the smooth conduct of the prestigious tournament. Further clarity on India’s participation and the tournament’s logistics is expected in the coming months.
