Xi Jinping calls for deeper China-Thailand partnership

Shanghai, July 17, 2026: Chinese President Xi Jinping met Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul in Shanghai on Friday, reaffirming China’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and calling for faster progress in building a China-Thailand community with a shared future.

Prime Minister Anutin is in China to attend the 2026 World AI Conference (WAIC) and the High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance, in addition to paying an official visit.

During the meeting, President Xi said China places the development of its relationship with Thailand in an important position in its neighborhood diplomacy and has always been a trustworthy and reliable strategic cooperative partner of Thailand.

He stressed that both countries should accelerate efforts to build a China-Thailand community with a shared future featuring greater stability, prosperity and sustainability.

Xi said closer cooperation would help advance the modernization efforts of both countries while contributing to regional peace, stability, development and shared prosperity.

The meeting underscored the longstanding strategic partnership between China and Thailand and reflected both countries’ commitment to expanding cooperation across a range of sectors, including emerging technologies, regional connectivity and economic development.
