Pakistan, Canada sign protocol on genetically modified canola imports

Islamabad, July 20, 2026: Pakistan and Canada on Monday signed a protocol establishing phytosanitary import requirements for genetically modified canola intended for food, feed and processing (FFP), marking a step forward in bilateral agricultural and trade cooperation.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand signed the protocol at the Prime Minister’s Office.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif witnessed the signing ceremony.

According to the Foreign Office, the protocol sets out the phytosanitary import requirements for Canadian genetically modified canola destined for food, feed and processing in Pakistan.

The agreement reflects the shared commitment of Pakistan and Canada to strengthening bilateral cooperation in the agriculture and trade sectors.
