Islamabad, November 19, 2024-The Pakistani Embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has dismissed recent media reports about alleged visa restrictions on Pakistani nationals as “factually incorrect.” In an official statement, the embassy emphasized that no such document had been issued by UAE authorities and reaffirmed the strong diplomatic ties between Islamabad and Abu Dhabi. It assured that any concerns are addressed through official channels and constructive dialogue, ensuring the protection of Pakistani citizens’ interests in the Gulf nation.
The clarification comes amid growing unease among Pakistanis, particularly those seeking blue-collar jobs in the UAE, following widespread media speculation about restrictions targeting individuals from certain cities in Pakistan.
In October 2024, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UAE, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, shared insights into the challenges faced by Pakistani job seekers, especially after the conclusion of the UAE’s amnesty program. He noted that visit visas, previously a common pathway for Pakistanis, are being increasingly rejected as the UAE shifts its focus toward building a skilled workforce. This shift has led to a reduced demand for low-skilled workers from South Asia.
Ambassador Tirmizi highlighted the importance of adapting to the UAE’s evolving requirements by investing in the professional development of Pakistani workers. He emphasized skills like emotional intelligence and organizational abilities to align with the needs of UAE employers.
The embassy also warned against the negative impact of unverified social media claims, which could strain diplomatic relations. It urged collaboration between the Pakistani government and the private sector to address these challenges effectively.
