Beijing, August 5, 2026: The Embassy of Pakistan in Beijing on Wednesday observed Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir, reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering political, diplomatic and moral support for the just struggle of the Kashmiri people for the realization of their inalienable right to self-determination.

Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir is observed annually on August 5 to denounce India’s unilateral and illegal actions of August 5, 2019, in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), which Pakistan maintains altered the internationally recognized disputed status of the territory in violation of international law and United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.

A solemn ceremony was held at the embassy, during which messages from the President of Pakistan, the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister were read out. The Pakistani leadership strongly condemned India’s actions in IIOJK and expressed concern over what it described as grave and systematic human rights violations in the occupied territory.

The messages reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast support for the Kashmiri people and called for the implementation of the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, which provide for the final settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute through a free and impartial plebiscite under United Nations auspices.

Addressing the gathering, Aizaz Khan, Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of Pakistan in Beijing, strongly condemned India’s actions in IIOJK, describing them as a blatant violation of international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

He said the international community should take notice of the continued oppression of the Kashmiri people by Indian occupation forces and also highlighted what he described as the persecution and marginalization of Muslims in India, particularly the targeting of Kashmiri youth in the occupied territory.

The event also featured remarks by Qian Feng, Director of the Research Department at the National Strategy Institute of Tsinghua University, and Cheng Xizhong, Senior Research Fellow at the Charhar Institute. Both speakers emphasized the need for a just and peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

As part of the observance, the embassy screened a documentary and organized a photographic exhibition highlighting alleged human rights violations in IIOJK, particularly following the events of August 5, 2019.

The ceremony was attended by a large number of participants from Chinese academia, think tanks and media organizations, as well as members of the Pakistani community residing in China.
