Islamabad, August 6,2026: Head of Pakistan Muslim League (Zia-ul-Haq) and Member of the National Assembly (MNA), Muhammad Ijaz-ul-Haq, announced on Thursday that the 38th death anniversary of former President General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq and the martyrs of the Bahawalpur tragedy will be observed on August 17 with solemnity and reverence. All necessary preparations and arrangements are currently being finalized in this regard, he added.

Addressing a meeting held on Thursday to review preparations for Gen Zia-ul-Haq’s death anniversary, Ijaz-ul-Haq expressed deep concern over the lack of progress in the investigation into the Bahawalpur tragedy. He termed the incident a major conspiracy whose underlying facts have not been exposed to date.

He pointed out that the Justice Shafi-ur-Rahman Commission inquiry report has neither been made public nor implemented. He urged the government and relevant authorities to give immediate and special attention to this sensitive matter.

Commenting on the overall political landscape, the PML-Z chief noted that Pakistan is currently facing severe political, economic, and administrative challenges on both internal and external fronts.

To navigate these crises, he stressed that all political forces must rise above personal and partisan interests to achieve a Charter of Economy and national consensus. Strengthening democratic institutions within constitutional limits and fostering sustainable dialogue among all stakeholders remain crucial to steering the country out of political instability toward progress, he added.

Sharing details of the commemorative event, he stated that a seminar titled “General Zia-ul-Haq Shaheed, Salute to Your Greatness” will be held in Rawalpindi on August 17. The seminar aims to honor the memory of the Bahawalpur martyrs and express solidarity with all martyrs of Pakistan.

In addition to paying tribute, the event will feature a comprehensive commentary on the prevailing national and political scenario. The PML-Z chief concluded that a clear future roadmap addressing key issues including curbing terrorism, establishing new administrative provinces, and tackling national challenges will be presented at the seminar. He urged the public and party workers to participate in large numbers.
