Rawalpindi, August 8, 2026: Security forces killed seven terrorists in an intelligence-based operation in Hangu district after militants belonging to what the military describes as the Indian-sponsored Fitna Al Khwarij took refuge inside a mosque during the exchange of fire, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Saturday.
According to the military’s media wing, the operation was conducted on August 7 on the reported presence of terrorists in the area.
ISPR said security forces effectively engaged the militants’ location during the operation. In an attempt to evade the advancing troops, the terrorists took refuge inside a mosque, “blatantly disregarding the sanctity of the place of worship.”
Seven terrorists were killed in the ensuing exchange of fire, the statement said.
However, Captain Hamza Akram, 27, who was leading his troops from the front and pursuing the militants, was killed during the intense firefight.
The officer, a resident of Narowal district, fought gallantly and embraced martyrdom, ISPR said.
Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the slain terrorists, who, according to ISPR, had been actively involved in terrorist attacks against security forces and law enforcement agencies as well as the killing of civilians.
A sanitisation operation was underway in the area to eliminate any other militants who may be present, the military said.
ISPR said the counterterrorism campaign under the vision of “Azm-e-Istehkam”, approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan, would continue with full force to eliminate foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism from the country.
“The sacrifices of our brave soldiers further reinforce our unwavering commitment to safeguarding our nation at all costs,” the statement added.
