Hong Kong, August 10, 2026: Pakistan’s rising squash star Umair Arif has won the Hong Kong Junior Squash Open 2026 after defeating England’s Luke McBride in a thrilling five-game final.
Umair recovered strongly after losing the opening game to secure a 3-2 victory, winning the contest 4-11, 11-6, 11-5, 9-11, 11-4.
The Pakistani youngster displayed composure, skill and resilience throughout the tournament before overcoming strong international opposition to claim the prestigious junior title.
The victory also adds a new chapter to Pakistan’s distinguished squash legacy. Legendary Pakistani squash player Jansher Khan won the Hong Kong Junior Championship in 1985, and four decades later, Umair has followed in his footsteps by bringing the title back to Pakistan.
Umair has previously represented Pakistan at the World Junior Squash Championships and Asian Junior Squash Championships, and said he was delighted to secure the Hong Kong title.
“I am extremely happy to have won the Hong Kong Junior Squash Open 2026. I have been preparing for this tournament for a long time by competing in both local and international events, and all the hard work has finally paid off,” Umair said.
“Winning this title is a proud moment for me and for Pakistan. I would like to sincerely thank the Pakistan Squash Federation and everyone who has supported, encouraged and believed in my journey,” he added.
