Islamabad, August 12, 2026: The Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works has called for an early resolution of pension and other outstanding issues faced by employees of the erstwhile Pak PWD, directing the Ministry of Interior to submit a summary to the prime minister within three days.
The committee meeting, chaired by Senator Nasir Mehmood, reviewed implementation of its earlier directions regarding the adjustment, salaries and pensionary matters of employees of the dissolved Pak PWD in light of directives issued by the prime minister.
The meeting was attended by Senators Hidayatullah Khan, Khalida Ateeb, Husna Bano and Jan Muhammad, as well as the Federal Minister for Housing and Works.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Works briefed the committee on the current status of former Pak PWD employees and informed members that all employees had been adjusted in accordance with the committee’s directions and were receiving their pay and allowances.
The committee chairman appreciated the efforts of senior officials of the concerned ministries in ensuring the adjustment of the employees.
However, the committee expressed serious concern over the non-payment of pensionary benefits to former Pak PWD employees who were adjusted in the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and have since retired or died during service.
The committee was informed that pension cases remained pending because of differing interpretations regarding the status of the affected employees. The Finance Division is currently releasing funds only for their pay and allowances, with no allocation for pensions or medical reimbursement.
The committee stressed that the adjustment of Pak PWD employees had been carried out on the directives of the Federal Cabinet and should therefore include all applicable benefits and privileges.
Officials further informed the committee that the Ministry of Interior had prepared a summary for submission to the prime minister. They explained that the Finance Division’s opinion was binding on ministries and divisions and that the issue could only be resolved through a decision by the prime minister or the Federal Cabinet.
After detailed deliberations, the committee unanimously resolved that the matter should be addressed on humanitarian grounds and without further delay.
Chairman Senator Nasir Mehmood directed the Ministry of Interior to submit the summary to the prime minister within three days for a decision.
Reiterating the committee’s commitment to the welfare of former Pak PWD employees, Senator Nasir Mehmood said the committee stood with the affected employees and would continue pursuing the matter until their legitimate issues were resolved.
