Algiers, August 17,2026: Algeria on Sunday received the third and final batch of children and young people from its national diaspora residing in France and several other European countries, under a national summer camp programme approved by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

According to Algeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the latest batch comprises 578 children and young people, who will be accommodated at holiday and recreational centres in Algiers, Boumerdes, Oran, Bejaia and Jijel.

The participants will take part in an integrated educational, cultural and recreational programme aimed at strengthening their connection with Algeria’s history, culture and national heritage.

The 2026 programme is designed to benefit 2,000 children and young people from the Algerian diaspora abroad through three summer camp sessions. It includes 16 flights for the transportation of participants and eight reception and gathering centres, with camps being held across seven coastal provinces.

The programme features cultural and historical activities, tourism, artistic and creative workshops, recreational events and cultural exchanges, providing participants with opportunities to explore Algeria’s heritage and strengthen their links with their homeland.

The initiative is being implemented through coordination between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the State Delegate in charge of the national diaspora abroad, the Ministry of Youth and relevant Algerian diplomatic and consular missions.

The Ministry of Youth has also welcomed 26 young men and women from the Algerian diaspora in Saudi Arabia, as well as a delegation of 36 young people from the Algerian diaspora living in western border areas of Tunisia, as part of the summer camp initiative.

The Algerian authorities said around 37,000 children and young people are expected to benefit from the national summer camps programme in 2026, while various summer activities organised by the Ministry of Youth aim to reach approximately 500,000 young people across the country.
