Leeds, August 19, 2026: Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq reached a significant career milestone on Wednesday, becoming the 30th Pakistani batter to complete 5,000 international runs during the opening day of the first Test against England at Headingley.
The 30-year-old entered the Test with 4,996 runs across formats, including 1,823 in Tests, 3,152 in ODIs and 21 in T20 internationals.
Imam reached the milestone in the ninth over of Pakistan’s first innings when he struck England pacer Ollie Robinson for a boundary.
He joined an elite group of Pakistani batters to have crossed the 5,000-run mark, including Inzamam-ul-Haq, Younis Khan, Javed Miandad and Imran Khan.
Imam went on to score a composed 42 before being dismissed by Josh Tongue during the second session. His innings took his international tally to 5,038 runs in 107 appearances at an average of 41.29, including 12 centuries and 31 half-centuries.
His dismissal ended a crucial 91-run third-wicket partnership with Abdullah Shafique and triggered a brief collapse, with Pakistan losing two further wickets in quick succession.
At the time of filing, Pakistan were 127-5 after 40 overs, with Mohammad Rizwan and stand-in captain Salman Ali Agha unbeaten on three and six respectively.
The milestone further strengthens Imam’s position among Pakistan’s leading contemporary batters across international formats.
