Islamabad, August 20, 2026: The Embassy of Algeria in Islamabad on Thursday commemorated the National Day of the Mujahid, marking the dual anniversary of the North Constantine Offensive of August 20, 1955, and the convening of the Congress of Soummam on the same day in 1956.
The ceremony was held to honour the Algerian martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the country’s struggle for independence. A sit-in was organized in remembrance of the martyrs, during which the Algerian national flag was raised, Al-Fatiha was recited and a minute of silence was observed in tribute to their memory.
Addressing the gathering, the Chargé d’Affaires recalled the historic significance of August 20, describing the North Constantine Offensive and the Congress of Soummam as pivotal moments that helped ignite, organize and strengthen Algeria’s liberation revolution.
The Chargé d’Affaires also called upon young members of the Algerian community in Pakistan to follow the example of their ancestors, emphasizing the values of sacrifice, dedication and selflessness that characterized the struggle for national independence.
He urged the younger generation to take pride in Algeria’s rich history and contribute wholeheartedly to the country’s continued development, while carrying forward the legacy of those who fought for its freedom.
The commemoration reaffirmed the enduring importance of Algeria’s liberation struggle and its legacy of sacrifice, unity and national commitment.
