Islamabad, August 20, 2026: Governor of Sindh Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi on Thursday visited the Rwanda High Commission in Islamabad, where he was received by Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Fatou Harerimana, in a reciprocal engagement aimed at strengthening Rwanda-Pakistan relations.

The visit followed High Commissioner Harerimana’s visit to the Governor House in Karachi in April 2026 and reflected growing diplomatic and political engagement between Rwanda and Pakistan, particularly at the provincial level.

During a tête-à-tête meeting, Governor Hashmi and High Commissioner Harerimana discussed opportunities to further enhance bilateral relations, with particular focus on trade, investment, business cooperation and diplomatic engagement.

The two sides explored the potential role of the Sindh government in facilitating stronger commercial relations between Sindh and Rwanda and emphasized the importance of developing private-sector linkages. They also discussed creating greater opportunities for businesses from both countries to access new markets, establish partnerships and pursue investment opportunities.

The strategic economic importance of Karachi as Pakistan’s principal commercial and maritime gateway also came under discussion. The city’s port infrastructure plays an important role in facilitating the movement of Pakistani exports to Rwanda, including rice, pharmaceutical products and medical and surgical equipment.

At the same time, Karachi serves as an important maritime entry point for Rwandan tea destined for the Pakistani market. Both sides noted that greater cooperation with the Sindh government could help improve trade facilitation, logistics, shipping connectivity and private-sector engagement, thereby enhancing the efficiency and competitiveness of bilateral commerce.

The meeting also highlighted opportunities to translate the longstanding political goodwill between the two countries into practical economic cooperation in sectors including trade, investment, logistics, pharmaceuticals, medical and surgical equipment, rice and tea.

The engagement assumes added significance as preparations continue for the Rwanda-Pakistan Business Forum scheduled to be held in Kigali in September 2026. The forum is expected to bring together businesses, investors and institutional stakeholders from both countries to explore investment opportunities, establish partnerships and promote bilateral trade.

Governor Hashmi’s visit was described as a positive step toward strengthening Rwanda-Sindh economic and commercial relations and advancing broader cooperation between Rwanda and Pakistan.
