Islamabad, August 21, 2026: A six-member Malaysian parliamentary delegation led by Malaysian Interior Minister Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail called on National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq at Parliament House on Friday, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening parliamentary, economic and people-to-people ties between Pakistan and Malaysia.
The meeting focused on the longstanding fraternal relations between the two countries, bilateral cooperation, parliamentary exchanges and matters of mutual interest.
Welcoming the delegation, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq stressed the importance of expanding parliamentary cooperation between Pakistan and Malaysia, saying regular exchanges and interaction between parliamentarians could further consolidate bilateral relations.
He said Parliamentary Friendship Groups could play an important role in promoting greater interaction and cooperation between the two legislatures.
The speaker also highlighted the significant potential for expanding trade, investment and business-to-business linkages between the two countries. He called for greater cooperation in education, trade and other areas of mutual interest while emphasizing the importance of strengthening people-to-people contacts.
Ayaz Sadiq emphasized that unity and mutual cooperation among Muslim countries were essential for the progress, prosperity and stability of the Muslim world.
He said greater unity among Muslim countries was vital for promoting common interests, peace, development and stability across the Muslim world.
The speaker also reiterated Pakistan’s preference for peaceful resolution of conflicts through diplomacy, stressing that countries should demonstrate responsibility and use diplomatic means to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region.
Referring to security concerns along Pakistan’s western border, Ayaz Sadiq said Pakistan had repeatedly conveyed its concerns to Afghanistan regarding the targeting of innocent Pakistani citizens from Afghan soil.
He expressed concern over the use of Afghan territory for terrorist activities against Pakistan and stressed the need to address such challenges through responsible engagement.
The speaker also highlighted climate change as a serious global challenge requiring coordinated and collective efforts by the international community.
Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail agreed on the need for collective action to address the challenges posed by climate change and called for greater international focus on diplomacy and dialogue to promote global peace and stability.
The Malaysian interior minister appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace and diplomacy amid recent regional tensions and acknowledged its role in advancing regional peace.
He thanked Speaker Ayaz Sadiq for the warm hospitality extended to the Malaysian delegation and praised the close and cordial relations between Pakistan and Malaysia.
Describing Pakistan as a beautiful country, the Malaysian minister said Islamabad was among the most beautiful cities in the world.
Both sides appreciated ongoing efforts to promote people-to-people contacts and expressed their resolve to further strengthen parliamentary, economic and people-to-people relations.
Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry was also present during the meeting.
