Islamabad, August 24, 2026: A security official has been taken into custody and is facing disciplinary proceedings under military law following a reported scuffle at Sarhad University of Science and Information Technology (SUSIT) in Islamabad, sources familiar with the investigation said on Monday.

The incident reportedly took place at the university’s Chattha Bakhtawar campus, where students had been protesting against the dismissal of a senior university official and other issues concerning the institution.

According to the sources, the security official allegedly discharged a weapon during a confrontation with protesters.

A video circulating widely on social media appears to show a uniformed individual approaching a group of young men, reportedly students of SUSIT, accompanied by a woman said to be a university official.

The footage shows the individual striking one of the men with a stick before exchanging heated words with protesters. A scuffle then appears to break out, with a crowd surrounding the official and several people seemingly assaulting him.

The official subsequently draws a pistol and points it towards the crowd. The woman accompanying him appears to attempt to restrain him, after which he points the weapon upwards and fires a shot.

Several police officers then approach the official and surround him.

In another video, a senior Islamabad police official is seen addressing students and saying that the individual had been escorted from the university premises by police. The officer assured the students that strict and swift action would be taken against him under the army’s disciplinary procedures.

“The Pakistan Army’s foremost priority is to maintain a strict system of discipline and ensure justice. Further action will be taken in light of the findings of the inquiry,” sources privy to the matter said.

The sources said the individual remained in custody while the circumstances surrounding the incident were being investigated.

No official statement had been issued by Islamabad police, the security forces or the university regarding the incident at the time of reporting.
