Islamabad, August 25, 2026: German Ambassador to Pakistan Ina Lepel called on Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb on Tuesday and congratulated Pakistan on the recent upgrade of its sovereign credit rating by Moody’s, while appreciating the progress made by the country on the economic front despite regional geopolitical challenges.

The German ambassador said the improved sovereign rating reflected growing confidence in Pakistan’s economic outlook and the government’s reform efforts.

Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb briefed the ambassador on Pakistan’s recent macroeconomic progress, including stronger foreign exchange buffers and continued efforts to maintain fiscal discipline.

He said the government remained focused on sustaining macroeconomic stability, advancing structural reforms and creating a more conducive environment for investment and business activity.

The two sides also discussed the operations of German multinational companies in Pakistan and explored avenues for further improving the business environment and strengthening economic engagement.

The finance minister emphasised the importance of policy continuity, improved business facilitation and institutional reforms in attracting investment and encouraging greater participation by international businesses in Pakistan’s economy.

Senator Aurangzeb also briefed the German ambassador on the government’s ongoing digitalisation of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), highlighting the role of technology-driven reforms in improving tax administration, transparency and efficiency.

He said greater digitalisation would help simplify tax processes, strengthen compliance and create a more efficient, transparent and predictable business environment for international companies operating in Pakistan.

The finance minister reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening institutions, improving the business climate and pursuing reforms aimed at promoting sustainable economic growth and enhancing investor confidence.

Ambassador Ina Lepel appreciated the government’s efforts towards economic stabilisation and structural reforms and reaffirmed Germany’s interest in strengthening bilateral economic and business relations with Pakistan.

She expressed support for sustained engagement and greater collaboration between German companies and their Pakistani counterparts to expand mutually beneficial economic opportunities.

The German ambassador also invited Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb to attend the 19th Asia-Pacific Conference of German Business (APK), scheduled to be held in Seoul later this year.

The conference is aimed at bringing together business and political leaders to promote dialogue and foster stronger economic relations between Germany, Europe’s largest economy, and the Indo-Pacific region.

The meeting underscored the shared commitment of Pakistan and Germany to maintaining close economic engagement and exploring new opportunities to deepen bilateral trade, investment and business cooperation.
