Islamabad, August 25, 2026: Professor Endo Ken, Chair and Professor of International Politics at the Faculty of Law, University of Tokyo, delivered a lecture on Japan’s evolving diplomacy and its role in the Indo-Pacific at Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) on Monday.
The lecture, titled “Japan’s FOIP 3.0 and the Future of Middle-Power Diplomacy in the Indo-Pacific,” was held at the Seminar Hall of the School of Politics and International Relations (SPIR).
QAU Vice-Chancellor Dr Zafar Nawaz Jaspal and SPIR Director Dr Muhammad Nadeem Mirza attended the event. Dr Mirza delivered the welcome remarks, while Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan Shuichi Akamatsu gave the opening address.
Professor Endo provided an overview of Japan’s foreign policy priorities and its evolving approach to the Indo-Pacific region, offering students and faculty insights into the concept of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” (FOIP) and the role of middle powers in shaping regional diplomacy.
He discussed the changing strategic environment in the Indo-Pacific and the significance of diplomatic cooperation, multilateral engagement and partnerships in addressing emerging regional challenges.
The lecture attracted faculty members and students of QAU, who listened attentively to the presentation and participated in an interactive question-and-answer session following the address.
The session provided an opportunity for participants to engage Professor Endo on Japan’s foreign policy, regional dynamics and the future of middle-power diplomacy in the Indo-Pacific.
The event concluded with an active exchange of views, highlighting the importance of academic and diplomatic engagement in promoting greater understanding of regional and international affairs.
