Islamabad, September 5, 2026: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired the first meeting of the Prime Minister-constituted Committee on Power Sector Reforms on Saturday, reviewing progress on the government’s reform and privatisation agenda for the power sector.
The meeting reviewed measures aimed at institutional strengthening and capacity building of key power-sector institutions, with particular emphasis on improving their effectiveness and operational capacity.
Ishaq Dar stressed the need for a consumer-centric approach to power-sector reforms, saying that the ongoing reform and privatisation process should ultimately result in greater efficiency, sustainability and improved services for electricity consumers.
The Deputy Prime Minister underscored the importance of pursuing the reform process with a clear focus on measurable results, institutional effectiveness and the long-term sustainability of the power sector.
The meeting was attended by the Minister for Power, Minister for Economic Affairs, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, Secretaries of the Cabinet Division and Power Division, National Coordinator NCMC, representatives of the provincial governments and senior federal and provincial officials.
