Islamabad, September 17, 2026: Pakistan and China have formally launched the Pakistan-China Boundary Joint Commission (BJC) to strengthen cooperation on border management and coordination.
The inaugural meeting of the BJC was held in Islamabad on September 16-17 under the 2013 China-Pakistan Agreement on Boundary Management System.
The Pakistan delegation was led by Director General (China) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bilal Mahmood Chaudhary, while the Chinese delegation was headed by Deputy Director General of the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs at China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Li Ya.
Senior officials from the foreign affairs, defence, interior, commerce and communications ministries, as well as customs, survey and other relevant border management authorities, participated in the meeting.
Both sides described the establishment of the commission as an important step towards further strengthening the Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership.
The discussions covered a range of border management issues, including cross-border coordination, movement of goods and people, joint border surveys and people-to-people linkages.
The meeting concluded with the signing of minutes reaffirming the two sides’ consensus and setting out a framework for future cooperation under the commission.
Pakistan and China also agreed to hold the next meeting of the Boundary Joint Commission in China on mutually convenient dates.
