Aichi-Nagoya, September 20, 2026: The possibility of Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi attending the medal ceremony at the 2026 Asian Games has drawn renewed attention ahead of the women’s cricket gold-medal match.
Indian and international media are closely monitoring Naqvi’s schedule ahead of the final, with India set to face Sri Lanka on September 22 after qualifying for the gold-medal contest.
The issue has attracted particular interest following India’s recent decision not to receive the winners’ trophy from Naqvi after defeating Sri Lanka in the ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup final in Dubai. The Indian men’s team had similarly declined to collect the Asia Cup trophy from Naqvi after winning the 2025 edition.
However, the Asian Games follow a separate protocol from ACC competitions.
Under Article 66 of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Constitution and Rules, medals are presented by the OCA President, who may delegate the responsibility to another OCA member. The rules also prohibit demonstrations and political, religious, racial or commercial propaganda during victory ceremonies.
As a result, Naqvi would not automatically be responsible for presenting medals by virtue of his positions as ACC president or Pakistan Cricket Board chairman. Any role he may have in the ceremony would depend on the arrangements made by the OCA.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said the board was currently focused on the matches and would assess the situation if and when the Indian team reaches the podium.
