Islamabad, October 1, 2026: OIC-COMSTECH, in collaboration with the High Commission of Malaysia in Pakistan and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), has launched a two-day Knowledge and Technology Transfer Workshop at the OIC-COMSTECH Secretariat in Islamabad.
The workshop brings together around 100 representatives from government departments, universities, research institutions, industry and the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme to promote knowledge exchange, technology transfer and practical collaboration between Malaysian experts and Pakistani stakeholders.
The programme focuses on three key areas: environmental management and water treatment; food security and waste-to-wealth; and environmental governance, sustainable cities and the circular economy.
Addressing the inaugural session, Malaysian High Commissioner to Pakistan Ambassador Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan appreciated OIC-COMSTECH for hosting and co-organising the workshop.
He said the initiative reflected Malaysia’s commitment to sharing knowledge, expertise and practical experience with Pakistan while strengthening bilateral cooperation in science, technology, higher education and sustainable development.
Welcoming participants, Coordinator General OIC-COMSTECH Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary said knowledge and technology transfer were essential for converting scientific research into practical solutions, building institutional capacity and advancing sustainable development.
He said the initiative was aligned with OIC-COMSTECH’s mandate to promote scientific and technological cooperation among the 57 OIC member states through knowledge sharing, capacity building and the exchange of expertise and best practices.
Prof. Choudhary urged participants to move beyond presentations and identify concrete opportunities for joint research, academic and expert exchanges, training programmes, technology demonstration and transfer, institutional partnerships, and collaboration among academia, government and industry.
He also highlighted COMSTECH’s ongoing work in environmental sustainability, climate change, water security and ecosystem restoration, including its Forum on Environment and Ecosystem Restoration and international conferences on water security and sustainable water management.
The UiTM delegation is headed by Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Juliana Johari, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Industry, Community and Alumni Network. Malaysian experts are sharing practical approaches and technologies in water treatment, resource efficiency, waste valorisation, sustainable urban development and environmental governance.
Through expert presentations, interactive discussions and a cross-disciplinary forum, the workshop aims to identify joint initiatives and strengthen institutional linkages between Malaysia and Pakistan.
The programme will conclude on October 2 with an outcome session focused on follow-up actions and future cooperation, including the possible expansion of successful initiatives to other OIC member states.
