Islamabad, October 30, 2026: Pakistan’s armed forces have destroyed several Afghan Taliban posts and military positions in areas adjoining South Waziristan and Parachinar in a retaliatory operation following unprovoked firing along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, state media reported on Friday.

Citing security sources, Radio Pakistan reported that the Pakistan Army responded forcefully to cross-border firing by Afghan Taliban forces in the Angoor Adda area on Tuesday.

“Using heavy weaponry, the Pakistan Army forced Afghan Taliban personnel to abandon their posts and flee,” the report said, adding that several Afghan Taliban personnel were also reportedly killed during the operation.

The report reaffirmed that Pakistan’s security forces remained committed to defending the country and protecting its people, stressing that there would be no compromise on national security.

According to officials, Afghan security forces opened fire on Pakistani Army border posts and nearby residential areas in the Angoor Adda sector on Tuesday, killing one local resident and injuring five members of a family.

The firing reportedly originated from positions inside Afghan territory and involved sniper rifles, small arms and heavy weapons.

Pakistani forces responded immediately, targeting multiple Afghan Taliban border posts, mortar positions and defensive bunkers with small and heavy weapons, including artillery.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi condemned the incident, warning that Pakistan would never tolerate attacks on its citizens or violations of its sovereignty.

Pakistan also rejected a statement by Afghanistan’s defence ministry blaming Islamabad for the incident, describing the allegations as a fabrication.

Angoor Adda is among the strategically important and sensitive crossing points along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, serving as a key trade route and an important passage for public movement between the two countries.

Continued tensions along Pakistan-Afghanistan border

Pakistan has repeatedly called on the Taliban administration in Kabul to dismantle terrorist sanctuaries operating from Afghan territory, particularly those associated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which Islamabad says are being used to launch attacks inside Pakistan.

September witnessed another escalation in tensions between the two neighbouring countries.

On September 21, following major terrorist attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan conducted what the government described as calibrated airstrikes against terrorist hideouts in the border region with Afghanistan. The government claimed that more than 28 terrorists were killed.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar described the action as part of Operation Ghazab lil Haq, launched on the night of February 26 in response to unprovoked cross-border firing by Afghan Taliban forces.

Days later, Pakistan shot down eight drones launched from across the border that had entered its airspace near Torkham and Kohat. Afghan Taliban forces were also reported to have opened fire near Kurram as Pakistani security forces foiled an attempt by militants to cross into the country.

In response to the drone incursion, Pakistan conducted what officials described as precision aerial and drone strikes at 10 locations across Afghanistan.

The Foreign Office also summoned the Afghan diplomatic representative and delivered a demarche on September 26 over the September 23 violation of Pakistani airspace by drones.

On October 1, Pakistan carried out another series of what the Information Ministry described as well-planned and calibrated airstrikes against terrorist hideouts in Afghanistan, resulting in the deaths of multiple militants.

Around mid-October, state media reported another retaliatory operation by Pakistani security forces following unprovoked firing by Afghan Taliban forces along the border in Upper Kurram, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Citing security sources, the reports said several Afghan Taliban personnel were reportedly killed during the operation. Pakistani forces also targeted the Afghan Taliban’s Topsar post and Shipola base camp with artillery fire, reportedly destroying the latter.

The latest border clashes came a day after the Foreign Office reiterated that any negotiations with Afghanistan could not be unconditional. However, Islamabad rejected suggestions that it was unwilling to engage with Kabul and said Pakistan would welcome sincere efforts by friendly countries to help resolve outstanding differences.
