Rawalpindi, November 30, 2024 –Senior journalist Matiullah Jan was released from Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, after being granted bail earlier today by an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC).

Despite the court issuing release orders, the Adiala Jail superintendent initially refused to comply, citing limited capacity and suggesting that Jan’s release orders be processed in Jhelum or Attock.

Yesterday, the Islamabad High Court had ended Jan’s physical remand, but Islamabad Police did not transfer him to judicial custody. Upon being granted bail today, the ATC issued the release orders.

Matiullah Jan was presented before ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Supra, who approved his bail against a surety bond of Rs. 10,000.
