Islamabad, December 7, 2024 – Senior puisne judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, emphasized the urgent need for establishing child courts across Pakistan. He made these remarks while addressing a ceremony in Islamabad on Saturday.

Justice Shah highlighted that issues such as child labor and child trafficking remain significant challenges in the country. “Child justice is of paramount importance. These children represent both our present and future,” he remarked.

The senior judge stressed the necessity of expediting cases involving children in specialized courts, ensuring swift and fair justice. He also advocated for involving children in decisions that directly affect their lives, emphasizing the importance of considering their perspectives.

Justice Shah further noted that giving attention to children’s welfare is a collective responsibility. He stated that establishing child courts is not a daunting task and is essential to uphold children’s rights effectively.

He also underscored the importance of adhering to international laws designed to protect children and called for a greater focus on their health, education, and well-being. Special attention, he added, should be given to children with disabilities, ensuring their inclusion and support in society.

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah’s remarks underscore the pressing need for systemic reforms to protect and empower the most vulnerable members of society.
