Rawalpindi, December 7, 2024-An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Rawalpindi has issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur in connection with the GHQ attack case stemming from the May 9 protests.

ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah directed the city police officer to ensure the production of all suspects in court. In addition to CM Gandapur, the court also issued arrest warrants for prominent PTI leaders, including Shibli Faraz, Shehryar Afridi, Zain Qureshi, and Tahir Sadiq.

This development follows the recent indictment of PTI founder Imran Khan and several party workers in the case. A total of 143 individuals have been accused in the matter, with 23, including Zulfi Bukhari and Murad Saeed, categorized as fugitives.

Meanwhile, in a related ruling on Friday, the Rawalpindi ATC ordered the release of PTI leaders Omar Ayub and Raja Basharat, who had been presented for remand after their indictment. The court expressed displeasure over their detention, questioning, “Why were they arrested when the Peshawar High Court (PHC) had already approved their transitory bail?”

The May 9 protests have resulted in widespread legal actions, with key PTI figures facing serious allegations, including the GHQ attack case. The latest warrants signal escalating legal challenges for the party and its leadership.
