Cairo, December 19, 2024: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a bilateral meeting with Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of Bangladesh, on the sidelines of the D-8 Summit, emphasizing joint efforts to explore new opportunities for economic collaboration between the two countries.

During the meeting, the prime minister underscored the potential to boost trade in key sectors such as chemicals, cement clinkers, surgical goods, leather products, and information technology. The discussions took place in a warm and cordial atmosphere, reflecting the goodwill and fraternal ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh, according to a statement from the PM Office.

Highlighting the shared historical, religious, and cultural ties between the two nations, PM Shehbaz expressed Pakistan’s keen interest in enhancing bilateral cooperation in trade, cultural exchanges, and fostering stronger people-to-people connections.

The prime minister commended Bangladesh for recent measures that have facilitated trade and travel between the two nations. These include the removal of the 100% physical inspection requirement for consignments from Pakistan, the closure of a special security desk at Dhaka airport for Pakistani passengers, and the elimination of additional clearance requirements for Pakistani visa applicants.

Both leaders expressed satisfaction with recent positive developments in bilateral relations, noting an increase in high-level interactions. They agreed to expand cooperation in all areas of mutual interest and align efforts to achieve shared development goals.

The two sides also acknowledged the significance of cultural exchanges and people-to-people ties, emphasizing the importance of enhanced interactions among artists, athletes, academics, and students. They noted with satisfaction recent milestones such as the Bangladesh Cricket Team’s visit to Pakistan and a concert by a Pakistani artist in Dhaka.

Additionally, the leaders agreed to strengthen collaboration at multilateral platforms, including the D-8 Organization, to advance common objectives and foster regional development.
