Peshawar, December 20, 2024 – Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur on Friday ahead of the provincial apex committee meeting to discuss the law-and-order situation in the province, with a special focus on Kurram district.

During the meeting at CM House, Peshawar, the interior minister assured full support to bolster the capacity of law enforcement agencies in KP. “Establishing peace in Kurram is our top priority,” Mohsin Naqvi stated, emphasizing the importance of consultations with stakeholders to devise a comprehensive strategy for restoring stability in the region.

Both leaders deliberated on sustainable strategies to ensure lasting peace in the conflict-hit Kurram district. Mohsin Naqvi reaffirmed that restoring peace is a top priority, while CM Gandapur expressed the provincial government’s unwavering commitment to combating terrorism.

Paying homage to the sacrifices of law enforcement personnel, Mohsin Naqvi remarked, “Our martyrs are a source of pride, and we salute their eternal sacrifices.” CM Gandapur echoed the sentiment, stating, “The sacrifices of our martyrs are unforgettable. Together, we will confront the menace of terrorism.”

Later, CM Gandapur chaired a session of the provincial apex committee to review the law-and-order situation in Kurram and assess steps taken by the provincial government. The meeting also addressed the provision of essential commodities and basic necessities to the strife-torn region.

The committee is expected to outline a roadmap for achieving lasting peace through consultations with relevant stakeholders. A Grand Jirga is scheduled to brief the session on progress made toward maintaining peace and law and order in the district.

The meeting was attended by senior civil and military leadership, provincial cabinet members, district administration, and other relevant officials.

It is pertinent to note that recent clashes and firing incidents in the Kurram region have resulted in the tragic loss of at least 130 lives and injuries to 186 individuals, according to hospital sources.
