Sukkur, December 20, 2024: The Sukkur Anti-Terrorism Court announced its verdict in the murder case of Jamiat Ulema Islam (JUI-F) leader Dr. Khalid Mahmood Soomro.

Judge Abdul Rahman Qazi sentenced all six accused to life imprisonment and imposed heavy fines. The convicts were found guilty of murder and terrorism charges, for which they received life sentences. Additionally, they were sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment on charges related to possession of illegal weapons.

Athar Abbas Solangi, the lawyer representing Dr. Khalid Mahmood Soomro, shared the court’s decision with the media. He also announced plans to file an appeal in a higher court to seek further justice.

The court had reserved its judgment on December 13, following extensive proceedings that included over 450 hearings and testimonies from 17 witnesses.

The six accused in the case—Hanif Bhutto, Sarang Totani, Mushtaq Mehr, Darya Khan Jamali, Lutf Jamali, and Altaf Jamali—have been incarcerated in Central Jail since December 2014.

Dr. Soomro’s son expressed dissatisfaction with the verdict, stating that the guilty should have been sentenced to death. He confirmed plans to challenge the decision in the High Court.
