Islamabad, January 1, 2025 – As Pakistan begins its two-year term as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for 2025-2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar reaffirmed the country’s commitment to working constructively with all UNSC members and the broader UN membership.

Speaking at a reception hosted for the heads of resident missions of UNSC member states at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dar emphasized Pakistan’s dedication to bridging divides, fostering consensus, and upholding the UNSC’s mandate in line with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.

“Having been elected to the Security Council for the eighth time, Pakistan brings a legacy of experience and an unwavering commitment to the principles of the UN Charter,” Dar stated.

He highlighted Pakistan’s significant contributions to international peace and security, particularly through its active participation in UN peacekeeping and peacebuilding efforts worldwide.

The deputy prime minister underscored Pakistan’s aspiration for the peaceful and just resolution of issues on the UNSC agenda. He reiterated the country’s stance on opposing the unilateral and illegal use or threat of force, combating terrorism in all its forms, and supporting effective UN peacekeeping and peacebuilding initiatives.

Dar also expressed gratitude to UN member states for their overwhelming support in electing Pakistan to the Security Council, affirming that the country would continue to uphold its responsibilities with integrity and commitment.
