Islamabad, January 15, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has hailed the World Bank’s $20 billion commitment under its first-ever 10-year Country Partnership Framework (CPF) as a transformative step toward Pakistan’s economic and development goals.

Announced on Wednesday, the CPF aligns with Pakistan’s Home-Grown Economic Transformation Plan and focuses on six priority areas: child nutrition, quality education, clean energy, climate resilience, inclusive development, and private investment.

In a statement shared on social media, the Prime Minister underscored the alignment of the CPF’s objectives with Pakistan’s national priorities, emphasizing its role in fostering sustainable development. He also commended the collective efforts of Pakistan’s leadership, including Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, for laying the groundwork for this strategic partnership.

“The CPF reflects the World Bank’s confidence in Pakistan’s economic resilience and potential. We look forward to strengthening this partnership to create lasting opportunities for our people,” said the Prime Minister.

The $20 billion commitment, which includes funding from the International Development Association (IDA) and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), is set to address critical challenges such as child stunting, climate change mitigation, improved education outcomes, clean water access, and promoting private investment.

Additionally, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) will provide a parallel commitment of $20 billion, bringing the total World Bank support for Pakistan under the CPF to $40 billion over the next decade.

Economic Affairs Ministry sources have credited this unprecedented support to Prime Minister Sharif’s and Army Chief General Munir’s effective leadership and collaborative efforts, which have bolstered international confidence in Pakistan’s growth potential.

This monumental pledge marks a significant milestone for Pakistan, offering a pathway to long-term economic stability, inclusive development, and resilience against pressing challenges.
