Lahore, January 31, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will inaugurate Gaddafi Stadium on February 7, ahead of the much-anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced on Friday.

Speaking at a press conference at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, Naqvi shared key updates regarding the Champions Trophy preparations and ongoing stadium renovations.

Naqvi also confirmed that President Asif Ali Zardari will inaugurate National Bank Stadium, Karachi, on February 11. He said that a special Champions Trophy ceremony will take place on February 16 in Lahore, organized in collaboration with the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Discussing the stadium’s revamp, Naqvi highlighted that construction began in October 2024 and progress has been swift and visible. He also acknowledged those who had criticized the project, stating:

“We appreciate the critics. Their scrutiny helped us stay on track.”

Addressing concerns over the stadium seating, Naqvi revealed that high-quality chairs were imported from China.

“These chairs are five times cheaper, meet international standards, and come with a 20-year warranty.”

Naqvi further stated that the Pakistan squad for the Champions Trophy 2025 would be announced later in the day, following a meeting with the selection committee.

He also confirmed that invitations had been extended to ICC officials and all major cricket boards, including the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

“Many guests will be visiting Pakistan for the tournament. Some plan to arrive for the semi-finals, while others will come for the final,” Naqvi said.
